The Attitude of Gratitude

With Thanksgiving just around the corner, I've been thinking about all the things I have to be grateful for: our freedom in this country, the abundance of so many material things we enjoy, the many opportunities we have available to us, to name a few. Our society may have hit a rather rocky road recently, but in the relative scheme of things most of us are still blessed with a plethora of luxuries, services and wealth compared to the rest of the planet. I think recognizing this is an important element for bringing similar , yet new energy into our lives.

My dog, Buddy, is right up there at the top of my list of blessings, along with wonderful family, dear friends and caring acquaintances. I look to Buddy as one of my most important personal advisors in life. I believe by following his example I can become a better human being, for instance by trying to live each day as it comes, letting go of criticism and judgement of others and myself, staying in the moment, never missing an opportunity to share love, being grateful for the goodies that come my way...and so much more.

Our animal companions are more than just "pets" in our homes, as I'm sure you would all agree. They are special beings who bring love, devotion, humor, joy and tenderness to our daily lives; they truly are a blessing.

Thanksgiving is my most favorite holiday of all because to me it means taking time to recount all the blessings that I have in my life and to give thanks for all those wonderful things. I'd like to take this opportunity to wish you all a blessed Thanksgiving Day, 365 days a year.

With love from Becky and Buddy

Thought For Today

In order to really enjoy a dog, one doesn't merely try to train him to be semi-human.

The point of it is to open oneself to the possibility of becoming partly dog.

Quote For The Day

Animals created by silence came forward from the clear and relaxed forest

Where their lairs were.

And it turned out the reason they were so full of silence

Was not cunning, and not terror...

It was listening.

Flower Essences for Your Animal...and YOU!

Vitality!

It was several years ago now, but I remember this little scene quite vividly: I had been feeling low on energy and sluggish, so I took a few doses of Corn flower essence over the course of a weekend. At the time I was working in the front office of a hospital physical rehabilitation department. It was a busy place and kept me on my toes. That next Monday, I was bustling about the office doing two or three things simultaneously – answering the phones, word processing a document, arranging patients’ schedules. I was no longer thinking about my lagging energy of the past week when one of our therapists walked through the office. “Wow!” he commented. “If I had energy like that I’d bottle and sell it!” “Yes,” I thought, “but it’s already in a bottle: Corn Flower Essence!”

Because its currently traditional harvest time, I’ve been thinking about the flower essence of the corn plant and how it can help “vibrate” one out of procrastination and into the “We get it done!” mode.

Remember, too, that our companion animals reflect our moods, so if you are feeling lethargic chances are you’ll notice your canine pal or feline friend is sleeping a lot during the day and joining you as a couch potato every evening.

Energy begets energy. If you go out for a brisk autumn walk with your dog or engage your kitty in a fun game I bet you’ll both feel peppier and happier as you get those endorphins pumping.

Healthy animals love to express themselves through movement and play. They will be grateful if you initiate a game or a romp. It’s good for both of you.

But if you’re feeling stuck or putting off getting started, or if your pet seems to be lacking vitality, I recommend some Corn flower essence for both of you.

It’s like energy in a bottle!

[There are many reputable lines of flower essences on the market; the Corn Flower Essence discussed in this article is from Spirit In Nature Flower Essences, the oldest line of essences in the United States, developed by Lila Devi Stone in 1977.]

Quote of the Day

"To heal ourselves, each other and the Earth
-these are inseparable.
To care for ourselves, each other and the Earth
-these are inseparable.
To listen and participate in co-creating the world in which we want to live
-this is our work."
-Virginia Coyle
